What is Poomsae?

Poomsae is a defined pattern of defence-and-attack forms used to teach Taekwondo. It allows practitioners to practise Taekwondo moves as though they are fighting one or more imaginary opponents.

Other than helping to improve correct Taekwondo techniques, Poomsae helps to improve concentration, physical fitness, beathing techniques, coordination, mindfulness, and perseverance. It is very difficult to think of anything else while performing Poomsae as it requires strong focus. It also reinforces muscle memory, allowing the practitioner to perform moves quickly with little thought.

There are 8 coloured belt patters called "Taegeuks" (Taegeuk means the Universe where all things come from) and 8 Black Belt patterns in Kukkiwon Taekwondo.
